Shaping the Future –Together
Posted on Tuesday, April 1, 2014
Associations are a group
of people or companies
organized for a common
purpose. In the case of The Powder
Coating Institute (PCI®), that
purpose is to promote the benefits
of powder coating. The idea is that
this group of people or companies
can have a greater impact to move
their agenda forward together
than as individual companies.
The theme of PCI®’s Annual
Meeting that is taking place from
May 18-21, 2014, in Destin, Fla.,
is “Shaping the Future Together.”
We believe that the members of
PCI® make a positive difference in
our industry by working together.
By being advocates for the powder
coating industry, PCI® members
can influence and change—for
the better—the direction in the
future.
My vision for the future of The
Powder Coating Institute is based
around advocacy – that is the active
support of positions that are crucial
to our industry. For example, at our
Annual Meeting, one of our featured
speakers is a senior director with the
National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA). This organization is currently
engaged in updating rules and
standards in a number of areas that
directly affect each and every powder
coater in the United States. PCI® needs
to be in a position to support and/or
recommend the direction that NFPA
takes with rulemaking.
This is one of the reasons PCI®
has started a new committee: the
Regulatory & Advocacy Committee.
This committee works with industry
organizations to identify any potential
regulatory impacts that may affect
the powder coating industry. The
committee’s purpose is to:
- Make members aware of
regulatory topics and their
potential impacts and of how the
PCI® will support the members in
such matters.
- Provide a central committee
for members to raise and share
concerns to have them addressed.
- Provide communication to
the PCI® and its members on
topics affecting the industry and
associated industries on regulatory
matters.
- Support a cause, or take
a position, that is aligned
with the mission of the
Powder Coating Institute
that promotes the benefits of
powder coating technology.
You may ask: Why do we need
to advocate any position? The
answer is quite simple. If PCI®
does not stand up and influence
the direction of our industry, who
will? By being an advocate for
our industry, we are truly shaping
the future together. We hope that
if you are not already a member
of PCI® you take a moment to
think about what would happen
if an agency—like OSHA—had a
ruling that directly affected your
business and your livelihood?
Would you be in the position to
change their direction?
The readers of this publication
produce and use powder coating
because you know that done properly,
powder coating provides a Stronger,
Greener and Better finish. We hope you
join our organization so that we all can
continue to shape our future together.
